Short?term heat stress during flowering results in a decline in Canola seed productivity

چکیده
Oilseed rape (Brassica napus) or Canola is an important oilseed crop produced and consumed globally. The predicted increase in the frequency of high-temperature events associated with climate change poses a threat to productivity. In present work, we report impact short-term heat stress on reproductive fitness yield components Canola. Short episodes, especially above 36°C, resulted diminished due reduced pollen viability germinability. Heat exposure led asynchronous male female development suppressed developing buds. As temperature increased 32°C, seed production decreased significantly. Temperatures beyond 38°C >50% reduction total weight. Short-term also components, vigour post-harvest characteristics. Biochemical investigations seeds harvested from heat-stressed (40°C for 12 hr) plants showed oil content along variable fatty acid composition. omega-6/omega-3 ratios response indicated possible decline nutritional quality. Understanding short episodes can provide efficient tolerance screening tools pave way stress-tolerant B. napus varieties.

Is early morning flowering an effective trait to minimize heat stress damage during flowering in rice?
Higher spikelet sterility due to heat stress exposure during flowering in rice is becoming a major threat for sustaining productivity in tropical and sub-tropical regions. Therefore, exploiting and incorporating early morning flowering (EMF) trait into ongoing breeding pipelines could be an effective strategy to minimize the damage. In this study, we have focused on quantifying the time of day ...
متن کاملSeed weight in canola as a function of assimilate supply and source-sink ratio during seed filling period
Understanding variation in SW (seed weigh) is of major importance in understanding SY (seed yield) variation. The objective of this study was to determine factors such as SN (seed number) per unit area, SFD (seed filling duration) and SFR (seed filling rate) and temperature, LAI (leaf area index), LAD (leaf area duration), above-ground dry matter, CGR (crop growth rate), leaf dry matter re...

متن کاملOil concentration in canola (Brassica napus L.) as a function of environmental conditions during seed filling period
Oil concentration (OC) in canola (B. napus L.) is determined during seed fillingperiod (SFP), and the variation in OC is greatly related to environmental conditionsduring that period. To determine factors affecting OC in canola, 12 fieldexperiments were conducted at Agricultural Research Station of Gonbad, Iran, during 2000-07. The experiments were carried out under different growingconditions. ...
